Whether you’re living in a studio apartment or a penthouse loft, New York City is no stranger to pests. From cockroaches and bed bugs to rats and mice, the last thing anyone wants is an infestation in their home.
When it comes to the rodent problem in NYC, however, city officials are turning to a new ally in the fight against rats and mice: cats. As natural predators of both rats and mice, cats can be an effective, affordable method of pest control.
According to NYU Local, The NYC Feral Cat Initiative allows pest control professionals to trap feral cats, spay or neuter them and then re-release them into rodent-infested areas. Because of their natural predator-prey relationship, felines can be helpful in reducing populations of rodents in unwanted areas.
